Angels open up game 1 @ Perfect Game Florida Qualifier with 1-0 victory.
The WOB Angels won a hard fought 1-0 game over the Treasure Coast Young Guns. Left-Hander, Tony Mollica, silenced the TCYG bats for 6 innings giving up only 4 hits and punching out 7. Bradley Goodson closed the game out while earning the save. The big hit of the game for the Angels came in the 6th inning when catcher Cal Lambert hit a leadoff double. 3rd baseman Connor McCarthy successfully sacrificed pitch runner Blake Bramblett to third base. With 1 out and a 0-0 ball game, the suicide squeeze was put on and was unsuccessfully executed, however, Blake Bramblett got caught up in a “pickle” and caused an errant throw that allowed him to score the winning run. The Angel bats could only manage 4 hits against very effective TCYG pitching. Besides the Lambert double, Cody Layfield, Colin Barrera, and Aaron Silbar all chipped in with singles.
Angels win big!
The Angels moved
to 2-0 in the Perfect Game Florida Qualifier with a 13-4 victory
over SWFL 17U. The Angels capitalized early on SWFL walks to jump
out to a 8 – 0 lead after only the second inning. The Angel bats
got hot as they also pounded out 9 hits. Bradley Goodson, Cal
Lambert and Garrett Ruckel were the 3-4-5 hitters in the lineup
respectively. All three of them were on base 4 times as each of
them went 2-2 at the plate and walked twice. The 15 year old Ruckel
also had 4 RBI’s to cap off a great day. Goodson had 2 rbi’s and 3
runs scored as well. Cody Layfield went 2-2 with 2 stolen bases on
the day. Connor McCarthy chipped in with a single and run scored.
Angel pitchers Tim Lappin, Tim Johnson, and Clayton Levins combined
to pitch 5 innings as the mercy rule came into effect. The boys
struck out 5, gave up 4 hits, and only walked one batter. The
Angels next game will be against the 18U Florida Pokers for the Pool
Championship.
Angels win 4th Perfect Game pool championship in 5th
event.
The Angels
defeated the 18U Florida Pokers team 7 – 2 in the pool championship
game. The victory gave the Angels an overall # 4 seed and automatic
1st round bye in the playoffs. The game started off slow
as the Angels fell behind 2 – 0 and the Pokers southpaw retired our
first 8 batters of the game. With 2 outs in the 3rd
inning the Angels Colin Barerra started the fireworks with a single
to right center. After a Cody Layfield single to left and Aaron
Silbar’s walk, right fielder Tim Johnson laced a 2- run single to
right field tying the ball game up 2-2. Cal Lambert laced a ball to
right field knocking in 2 more runners while Garrett Ruckel launched
a ball to deep left center field for a rbi double that gave the
Angels a 6-2 lead. Austin Bailey also contributed with a single.
Pitcher Tim Lappin threw 5 very strong innings versus a solid
hitting Pokers team. He gave up 6 hits, 2 earned runs, and struck
out 4. Big right-hander, Chase Wissman, tossed the final 2 innings
giving up 2 hits and punching out 3 batters. The Angels next game
will be in the elite 8 versus the winning inning.
